Sozopol is situated on the Bulgarian coast of the Black sea. It is on 35 kilometers south from Bourgas city. The center of Sozopol is on a little peninsula which is the old city. Sozopol is the oldest city on the Bulgarian sea side. The first settlement was arisen in the end of IV-III millennium b. c. Тhe submarine reports uncovered ends of homes, the ceramic vessels, the rock osseous artilleries to the labor from the bronze period. Numerous rock anchor, dating since II-I millennium b. c, are discovered as well in the sozopol’s gulf. They testify for active shipping since depth ancientness. Hellenic colony “POLIS” is established by Greeks from Milet under the name Apolonia Pontika on the today’s Sozopol in 610 b. c. The city became as a trades and seaport center. A famous symbol of Sozopol is the anchor. It is found on the coins, which Apolonians cut at the end of VI century b. c. The rich city became center of high cultivated taste for art. Its contemporary called it Apolonia Magna, which means Great Apolonia. In 72 b. c. the city is conquered and robed by the Romans and the fortress wall was destroyed. In IV century the city is again gaining strength this time with the name Sozopolis-city of salvage. A traditionally Byzantine city and a solid in the boondocks to Constantinople, Sozopol is on the territories of Bulgaria for briefly, barely in 812 in the time of khan Krum. Many of the old houses and churches that create the memorable books and feel of the city of Sozopol today, are build in XVIII-XIX century. The old glorious wooden icons show the great comprehension art trade of this time. Since the middle of XIX century the antiquities of Sozopol are still very interesting for everybody. The investigators direct efforts to investigation of the cemeteries and the materials, discovered in it. Today, more famous cemeteries of the аncient  Apolonia Pontika are those in the sea garden and the countries “Harmanite”, “Budjaua”(partial rescue archeological digs) as well “Kalfati”(the archeological digs are held each year from Bulgarian-French team. Medieval Sozopol is fenced with a fortress wall and towers, which are built in the time of emperor Anastasii in 511. They are used in the following centuries. The main fragments of the protective equipments are well – preserved today, which reach acme to 3-4 meters.
